SMART Lab Program:

Hello! My name is Roawn Lee. I have been teaching and guiding students in Grades Kindergarten through 8th for 21 years. In these years, I have been a classroom teacher, an interventionist, an instructional coach, and an administrator. I love each and every role that I have had because in each role I have helped students succeed and reach their potential. Through these various positions, my focus has always been the learner. How do I help them succeed? What do they need to succeed?

I am now embracing a new opportunity in my teaching career by teaching SMART Lab to our 4th through 8th grade students at SPLC. Many of our students will have future jobs that we cannot imagine today. Therefore, it is our task as educators to prepare them with 21st century skills. These include critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication. SMART Lab provides the experiences and lessons so the students can develop and practice these skills. While the focus is on technology and STEAM related activities, the students learn to collaborate with each other, develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and how to communicate what they have learned through writing and presenting the information.

My approach to and belief about education and learning is that it is continuum, and we never stop learning. Students come to me with certain skills and aptitudes. It is my job to know these abilities and capitalize on them so I can push the student further along the continuum so they can reach their full potential. As Elbert Hubbard says, “The object of teaching a child is to enable him to get along without his teacher.” My goal is to help all students reach that goal. So, they can become independent, critically thinking problem solvers, and contributing members of society when they are adults.

Intervention Program:

An intervention program is only as good as the data that it is based upon and the implementation of strategies that address the areas of need identified by that data. SPLC is in the process of developing our Intervention Program and we know the value of accurate data to find exactly where a student is struggling. Then the next step is use strong, research-based strategies to address those specific skill deficits.

Welcome to the Intervention Room! My name is Roawn Lee, and I am excited to be using my expertise as an interventionist to help SPLC students succeed and achieve their grade level standards. I have been teaching and guiding students in Grades Kindergarten through 8th for 21 years. In these years, I have been a classroom teacher, an interventionist, an instructional coach, and an administrator. I am a Level III K- 8 Licensed teacher with endorsements in TESOL

and Literacy. In addition, I have a strong background in math and science from my previous career. Regardless of the position I have held, my focus has always been the learner. How do I help them succeed? What do they need to succeed? As an interventionist this focus is even more pinpoint. I try to find the root of why the student is not succeeding, meet them at that level, and then teach and push them beyond.
